Laura Oldfield Ford: Malthouse Project

Our Learners will embark on a 5 day workshop with the artist Laura Oldfield Ford. They will be collaborating on a large scale mapping project that looks at hidden narratives, alternative futures and community housing within the city. All work will be exhibited Saturday 17th July – Friday 30th July 2010. (Private View Friday 16th July 5 – 7 pm)

Caroline Kirton – Stitched Snapshots

Tracey Emin

Tracey Emin’s art explores personal and biographical themes that include hope, humiliation, failures and successes with candid honesty. Emin has explored a variety of medium such as Painting, Drawing, Printing, Photography, Video, Sculpture and Installation. Her use of Textiles, especially Appliqué and Stitch allow Emin to create impulsive thought provoking compositions full of pattern, colour and text. She has inspired learners responses for our 2010 GCSE exam ‘Work, Rest and Play:Travel‘.

Royal Academy of Art – Outreach Programme 2010

We have been hosting the Royal Academy of Arts Outreach Programme for several years and this is the second time we have documented the responses on departmentart. The workshops explore the human figure using a wide variety of mark making techniques and we have continued to develop our use of live textiles responses such batik mark making and machine embroidery.

Kate Talbot

Kate Talbot has taken the pop art aesthetic of popular consumerism and reinvigorated it using textile techniques such as Appliqué and Stitch. Piet Mondrian

Piet Mondrian is widely known for his numerous gridded compositions using the primary colours Red, Yellow and Blue. Mondrian‘s career was consumed with the pursuit of mathematical and artistic compositional combinations to acheive an aesthetic nirvana. Resulting in one of his final compositions the Jazz inpsired Broadway Boogie-Woogie.
