Anna Atkins is considered to be the first woman to create a photograph and the first person to publish a book with illustrated images. Atkins studied the photogenic drawing process from William Henry Fox Talbot and considered Cyanotype inventor John Herschel a family friend. She used the Cyanotype process to document her interest in Botany and the documentation of small plants and Algae by laying plants directly onto cyanotype paper and exposing them to UV/sunlight. Cyanotype is a photographic ‘cameraless’ process and inspired camraless investigations such as Photograms, Luminograms, Gelatin-Silver print, Dye destuction print, Gum Bichromate process and Albumen printing.
